International Youth Leadership Camp
For International Students in Jabodetabek-Indonesia
I. Background
The recent development of information technology enables IT users to easily access information in realtime. In many occassions, people share news on conflicts and violents in many places in Indonesia and around the world. In the last few months, for example, people are sharing about conflict and violent in Rakhine, Myanmar. While the causes of the conflict itself is complicated and involve issues such as politics, religion, and economy, a lot of people tend to limit the issue merely on religion. As a result, some people made their own judgement based on their religious sentiments. Similarly, there were news on terrorist attact in several European cities including Paris, Berlin, Brussels, London and Barcelona that also caused religious sentiments. It is important that younger generation can play active roles in preventing violents and conflicts in the future.
Education is deemed as an effective means to instill the importance of peace and to prepare future action to promote peace among young generations. It is therefore, Social Trust Fund (STF) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta takes a step to be involved in a forum that educate young generation to have a proper understanding about the values of Islam as religion of peace and mercy to the entire universe.
